As a new build, this modern hillside home was designed with intention — but once the sun went down, the property faded into darkness. The homeowners opted out of standard can lights (following their builder’s advice) and came to us looking for a custom lighting solution that would do justice to their stunning architecture and landscape.
Safety was key — they wanted a space where their kids could play freely after dark and guests could come and go with confidence. But aesthetics mattered just as much. Their goal was to elevate the beauty of the home at night while staying true to its Utah-inspired vibe.
From the start, this property had incredible texture: natural stone walls, rich wood accents, sharp modern lines, and beautifully layered landscaping. We knew the lighting needed to feel just as intentional — natural, elevated, and in-sync with the home’s earthy-meets-modern style.
Despite some retrofitting challenges (including surgical work into existing stone step walls — which we love, by the way), we leaned in fully. Our goal was to create rhythm, depth, and a little nighttime magic.
We used a layered approach with a mix of architectural and landscape techniques:
Shooting Star Estate now lives up to its name. At night, the property transforms — dramatic, grounded, and quietly luxurious. Each texture shines in a new way: the stone feels richer, the wood warmer, and the home itself more commanding. The hilltop location now feels intentional, almost majestic — a beacon of beauty and security above it all.
